Happy International Women’s Day! Sisters of the world unite! You have nothing to lose but your chains! (Okay, I understand. The original quote went, “Workers of the world…” Still, it’s not too bad for a rallying cry.)
I’ve often said I can remember the date for International Women’s Day, because it is also my sister Kristen’s birthday. And bonus—she happens to be a woman.
Although, she once was a girl. This is her at age twelve, allowing our neighbor’s dog, Chips, attempt to devour our dog Foxy’s head.
About ten years later, she is giving our mom a hug during a visit to South Carolina.
I believe this was the year 2000, when at the park in Hendersonville, Tennessee, there was a bit of wind. My dad’s, Banu’s, and her hair give testimony to that. She’s holding Kaleb, her younger son, while Curtis takes his spot in the front. By the way, those two have become fine-looking men.
She’s at the wheel, on the loose.
Last November we visited Kristen’s and Curtis’ house. (Her husband is also named Curtis!) Banu is being eyed by their canines.
And the final photo was taken during a visit to her apartment on Christmas Day, 1987.
The reason we celebrate birthdays is because we celebrate that person. We give thanks that they exist. So I give thanks that Kristen exists!
